BlackBerry PlayBook - Not Quite Finished?

Bloomberg's Rich Jaroslovsky reviews Research In Motion Ltd.'s PlayBook tablet computer. The PlayBook, which arrives in stores April 19, is initially available only with a Wi-Fi connection. It's priced the same as the Wi-Fi-only models of Apple Inc.'s iPad 2: $499 for 16 gigabytes of storage, $599 for 32 GB and $699 for 64 GB.

Though reviewers had several upbeat things to say about the PlayBook, they remained concerned about the tablet's overall finish. For instance, critical email and calendar apps, a must for a device that is touted as the "world's first professional-grade tablet," are notably missing.

Admittedly, the PlayBook is able to access email and calendar features either via a bridged connection with a BlackBerry smartphone or through web apps, but reviewers found the tethering requirement unwieldy and cumbersome.

Reviewers also took issue with the bugginess of the OS, the lack of cellular data and the scant selection of compatible apps.

Eva Longoria Has Wardrobe Malfunction & Shows Sexy Legs with Shorts on Letterman

No buttons to pop open here! Eva Longoria avoids another wardrobe malfunction in skin-tight dress

She may have experienced a wardrobe malfunction earlier in the week when her jacket popped open on David Letterman’s chat show, but last night Eva Longoria made sure her dress fitted like a glove.

The actress wore a well-fitting black strapless LBD while attending the opening party for an LA museum that recognises Mexican-American’s contribution to Southern Californian culture.

It was a far more modest look for the 36-year-old than the micro shorts and gaping jacket that she wore on Letterman’s show while promoting her NEW COOKBOOK

But despite her elegant ensemble at the the Inaugural Gala of La Plaza De Cultura Y Artes in Los Angeles yesterday, the museum opening still sparked controversy.

Simon Cowell Dishes On ‘X Factor’ Auditions

Simon Cowell wants to make sure he finds the most talented singer for the U.S. debut of "The X Factor." That's why he's set up audition studios in Nashville, Tenn.; Anchorage, Alaska; Kansas City, Kan.; and Denver throughout April.

"The X Factor" is based on Cowell's British-born hit series and debuting on Fox this fall. At stake is a $5 million recording contract.

Those invited to the booths to sing must be at least 12 years old and can be solo artists or vocal groups. Each audition will be sent to the show's producers, and those selected will take part in callbacks.

Simon Cowell has set the record straight amidst rampant reports that claim Fergie is being considered for a judging position on his latest reality endeavor, “The X Factor.”

“Auditions are going great, actually,” he told reporters. “Numbers are much higher than we anticipated.”

Other celebrities reportedly being considered are Jessica Simpson, Paula Abdul, George Michael, former Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger and Mariah Carey.

"X Factor" MyStudio audition booths will open at the following dates/locations, according to a press release:

Pia Toscano Unleashes Rock And Roll Mettle On 'American Idol'

'You killed it!' judge Steven Tyler says after calling ballad-loving finalist a 'murderer.'

Pia Toscano finally broke out of her comfort zone on Wednesday's (April 6) "American Idol," stepping away from torch-song balladry and moving into more uptempo territory, a transition the judges have been urging her to make for weeks.

She did so by scaling, on Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Night, one of the grandest songs in pop music history: Ike and Tina Turner's towering "River Deep - Mountain High." The 1966 offering was considered by its producer, the legendary Phil Spector, to be his finest creation, and its subsequent failure in America helped kick-start his slow decline.

Teen Births Down in U.S., but Higher than Elsewhere

While teen births fell 37% between 1991 and 2009, the CDC reports that U.S. rates are higher than those in Canada and most European and Scandinavian countries.

Wanda Barfield, MD, MPH, director of the CDC's center for chronic disease prevention and health promotion, said sex education and communication with parents and healthcare providers falls short in the U.S.

Yet rates of contraceptive use differed among various racial and ethnic groups, being lowest among blacks and Hispanics, the researchers said. That went hand-in-hand with higher teen pregnancy rates for these groups:

* 59 per 1,000 black females
* 70.1 per 1,000 Hispanic females
* 25.6 per 1,000 for white females

Rowling looking into Harry Potter e-books

J.K. Rowling stirred a publishing phenomenon with her Harry Potter books. Can she do it again on the e-book market?

The best-selling author is considering making the fantasy books available electronically, her London-based agent said Monday - meaning that Potter fans may soon be able to download the popular series about a boy wizard to their Kindle or iPad.

"We are currently actively looking at all the various options for Harry Potter in this space, that is e-books," Neil Blair, of the Christopher Little Literary Agency, said in an email.

Rowling has been watching the developing market and waiting for the right moment to release her books in that format, Blair said.

Teacher suspended after comparing students to criminals on Facebook

A teacher at School 21 in Patterson, New Jersey, whose name has not been released, has been suspended for making derogatory comments about her students on her Facebook page, saying she felt like a “Warden” overseeing “future criminals”.

The school is located in a neighborhood with many single parent homes, and struggles with crime and poverty.

Board president Theodore Best said the teacher was suspended because her posts created serious problems which impacted the functioning of the building. Best explained, “You can’t simply fire someone for what they have on their Facebook page, but if that spills over and affects the classroom then you can take action”.

Many parents came to the school after reading the teacher’s negative comments on Wednesday, to take their children out of the class.

One in five American mothers have children with different dads

Researchers found that the trend was higher in minority groups and mothers with low income and education backgrounds.
The data was taken over a 27-year period from nearly 4,000 U.S. women who had been interviewed more than 20 times.

The study's author Cassandra Dorius said of the one in five figure: 'To put it in perspective, this is similar to the number of American adults with a college degree. It's pervasive.'

She said: 'Women with children from multiple fathers tend to be disadvantaged compared to other moms. They are more likely to be under-employed, to have lower incomes, and to be less educated.'

The study revealed that:

* 22% of Caucasian mothers have had children with more than one father
* 35% of Hispanic mothers have had children with more than one father
* 59% of Afrcian-American women have had children with more than one father

Snooki" nets $32,000 for speaking gig at New Jersey university

CNN) -- It's not quite beach season yet, but students at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey, got a lesson in tanning from MTV's "Snooki" -- who spoke at the school this week for a $32,000 price tag.

The paycheck of the pompadour-sporting Nicole Polizzi, nicknamed "Snooki" on MTV's wildly popular "Jersey Shore," eclipsed that of Nobel Prize winning author, Toni Morrison.

Morrison is expected to speak at the university's graduation for $2,000 cheaper, according to a school spokesman.
